Target audience

This activity is intended for Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and other members of the healthcare team.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the epidemiology and the spectrum of clinical manifestations associated with different types of LVV (e.g. giant cell arteritis, Takayasu’s arteritis).
  2. Differentiate between the strengths and limitations of various LVV diagnostic methods (e.g. biopsy, vascular ultrasound, advanced imaging modalities [CTA, MRA, PET/CT]) while understanding the test performance of each procedure.
  3. Employ the ability to create a comprehensive management plan for patients with LVV including immunomodulation when needed, prevention of treatment-related side-effects (e.g. glucocorticoid-toxicity, immunization), and longitudinal monitoring for disease relapse and disease-related vascular damage.
